Imprinting VIDEO
Written by P.P.G. Bateson and Ellen P. Reese
Imprinting, filmed at Cambridge University and The Wildfowl Trust, was directed by Ellen P. Reese. The video shows excellent examples of experimental analyses of the effects of early experience on the development of social behavior in a variety of species. A large number of carefully designed experiments designed to answer specific questions about imprinting are shown and explained in this video.
Variables, such as age of exposure to the stimulus, length of exposure, and characteristics of the stimulus itself are explored experimentally. Examples are shown of experiments designed to determine whether a particular stimulus has reinforcing stimulus in its own right or whether imprinting has resulted from the animals early experience with the stimulus.
